It is a bold and exhilarating reimagining of human origins. Drawing from cutting-edge anthropology and archaeology, the book dismantles long-held assumptions about our ancestors, power structures, and the roots of inequality.

What makes this book truly compelling is how it challenges the linear, deterministic view of history popularized by Yuval Noah Harari’s Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind. While Sapiens presents a sweeping narrative with a somewhat fatalistic tone—suggesting that agriculture and civilization inevitably led to domination and inequality—Graeber and Wengrow counter this with a more open-ended, hopeful vision. They propose that humanity has always had choices, that social systems were diverse and imaginative, and that we are not locked into a singular path of progress.

This isn't just history—it’s a manifesto for curiosity and intellectual freedom. It invites us to think differently about freedom, society, and the future. By tracing how Enlightenment thinkers were influenced by Indigenous critique, the book also serves as a powerful reminder of the global roots of political thought.

Spain Launches Its First Military Satellite: A Leap Forward in Space Technolog

On January 30th, Spain marked a historic milestone with the successful launch of its first military satellite, SPAINSAT NG 1. The satellite was launched from Cape Canaveral aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket and is now positioned in geostationary orbit, approximately 35,786 kilometers above Earth—nearly three times the planet's diameter.

Operated by the Spanish company Hisdesat, SPAINSAT NG 1 is hailed as the most advanced satellite in Spain and the first in Europe equipped with cutting-edge technology antennas. This innovation includes X-band antennas and beam-hopping technology, enabling the satellite to redirect electronic signals without physical movement. Additionally, it boasts the ability to detect and neutralize interference on Earth, ensuring secure communications for Spanish military forces and NATO.

The satellite is expected to remain operational until 2037, providing reliable and secure communication capabilities. Looking ahead, its twin satellite, SPAINSAT NG II, is scheduled for launch around September or October 2025. Together, these satellites will cover two-thirds of the planet, securing communications from Denmark to Singapore.

This achievement underscores Spain's growing presence in the space sector and its commitment to advancing technological innovation.

Honored and Grateful: A Journey Through the Cosmos

Today marks an extraordinary milestone in my journey as a STEAM educator and an advocate for scientific literacy. I am deeply honoured to be recognized by the Clark County Board of Commissioners for my dedication to sharing the wonders of the universe with our community.

My journey began in the vibrant city of Madrid, Spain, where my fascination with the cosmos was sparked at a young age. Inspired by my mother's love for the stars and my sisters' enthusiastic encouragement of stargazing, I developed a deep passion for astronomy and the sciences. This passion has been the driving force behind my life's work.

When I moved to Las Vegas, I found a community that shared my curiosity and excitement for space exploration. Over the past eleven years, I have had the privilege of working with numerous organizations to promote scientific literacy, including the Scouts of America, the Las Vegas-Clark County Library District, Civil Air Patrol, Native Tribal Organizations, UNLV, and many more. My contributions to citizen science projects for NASA, JPL, The Planetary Society, and others have been some of the most rewarding experiences of my career.

In 2013, I joined the Las Vegas Astronomical Society, and since 2018, I have served as the Vice President of the Society’s Education Outreach Program. This role has allowed me to conduct over 100 STEAM events annually, sharing my passion and knowledge with thousands of community members. In 2022, I was selected for NASA’s Solar System Ambassador’s Program, further fueling my commitment to space exploration and public education.

Today's recognition is a testament to the support and encouragement I have received from so many incredible individuals and organizations. I am especially grateful to Commissioner Gibson and Commission District Liaison Blanca Vazquez for their unwavering support and belief in my mission. Their enthusiasm and dedication have been instrumental in my journey.

An Adventure in Helldivers 2

In February 2024, the gaming world witnessed the release of Helldivers 2, a title that has captured the imagination of players around the globe. It's not just another game; it's a vibrant experience where cooperation and strategy intertwine in the fight to spread Super-Earth-controlled democracy across hostile alien worlds. Every session in Helldivers 2 has reminded me what it means to join forces with friends, share laughter, and face impossible challenges together.

One of the most captivating features of this game is its dynamic universe. Each mission feels unique thanks to the "Game Master" who delivers surprises, such as unexpected hordes of enemies or abrupt changes in the environment. This element ensures that no two playthroughs are the same; there's always something new to discover, a new tactic to try out.

I'm particularly fascinated by how the team's actions influence the intergalactic war. Every victory and every defeat shapes us within this universe, transforming us not just into combatants, but into architects of our collective destiny.

Our primary adversaries are the Terminators, with their menacing insectoid forms, and the Automatons, precise machines designed to dominate us. Each presents a distinct challenge; however, a camaraderie is always forged in the fight against these relentless foes.

While both are formidable, my favorites remain the Automatons. There's something fascinating about facing these advanced machines, especially when they unleash their calculated tactics and sophisticated technology. Nevertheless, I can't deny that the Terminators also possess their own lethal allure.

One of the game's gems is the support and communication between team members. Every mission becomes an exercise in synchronization, where calling for "strategies" can be the difference between victory and defeat. This coordination not only helps us survive; it strengthens our friendships and creates unforgettable memories.

The introduction of the Illuminados has added a new layer of intrigue and complexity to the game. Their arrival through a black chasm not only presents us with new challenges but also expands our perspective on this vast universe.

I love how each server is represented by a distinct planet, turning the simple act of switching servers into a visually captivating experience. It not only reinforces the feeling of being cosmic explorers but also adds a touch of mystery and excitement to the journey.

From my ship, which I've christened the "Shield of Humanity," I continue to face challenges and celebrate victories alongside my fellow Helldivers. Each mission is a reminder of what it means to work as a team, adapt to changing circumstances, and fight for a common cause.

Helldivers 2 has not only been a commercial and critical success; it has been a personal adventure that has taught me about resilience, the importance of communication, and the immeasurable value of friendship. As we face new threats in this dynamic universe, we will continue together, ready to protect our stellar home.

2024: The Year of Cracks and Bridges

If I had to describe 2024 with a single feeling, it would be that of a deep, collective sigh. A year in which the earth, societies, and certainties seemed to crack under immense pressure. It was a period where the shadow of hatred, division, and uncertainty stretched longer than ever, but where, against all odds, we also learned to distinguish more clearly the small glimmers of humanity that insist on shining through. Today, as I reflect on it, I am filled with a bittersweet feeling, laden with worry, but also with tenacious hope.

The Cracks: A World Cracking Under the Weight

This year, my heart has been saddened to witness firsthand the trends that have defined our era. We have seen how political polarization not only divided countries but poisoned dialogue to its very roots. It reflects a fractured world where extreme narratives gain ground.

This division was not a distant spectacle; it became tangible violence. The conflict in the Middle East intensified in a heartbreaking way, spreading from Gaza to Lebanon. It was the year of the first direct attacks between Israel and Iran, of assassinated leaders, and of a humanitarian crisis in Gaza that has left a trail of pain impossible to quantify. The unexpected fall of Bashar al-Assad's regime in Syria, after years of civil war, closed the year with another geopolitical earthquake.

Nature itself, perhaps weary, sent us its own warning signals. The planet experienced its warmest year on record, and the price was paid in the form of tragedies such as the deadly storm in Valencia, which, with biblical rains, claimed the lives of more than 230 people in Spain, or the devastating fires in Chile and the floods in Brazil. Each event, a reminder of our vulnerability and the urgency that we still ignore.

And amidst all this, technological uncertainty continued to grow. Artificial intelligence continued its controversial and accelerated development, challenging our ethics and our place in the world, while events like the failure of Boeing's Starliner mission, which left astronauts Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore stranded in space, reminded us that even our boldest dreams are fraught with unforeseen risks.

Glimmers of Hope: The Light that Shines Through the Cracks

However, precisely because the darkness was so dense, the glimmers of light became unmistakable and precious. 2024 was also the year in which, amidst the mud, we built small bridges.

Science and international cooperation continued their course, sometimes stumbling, but without stopping. Despite the setbacks, the extended stay of astronauts on the International Space Station is a testament to our determination to remain in the cosmos. Every problem solved up there is a lesson in resilience for all of us down here.

And in the depths of tragedy, the best of the human spirit emerged, as always: neighbors rescuing neighbors from the floodwaters in Valencia, citizens helping each other in the midst of crisis, and a global community that, although divided, never stopped debating, pushing for peace, and seeking solutions to crises like the one in Gaza.

Final Reflection: Inhabiting the Cracks with Hope

So, what does this heartbreaking 2024 leave us with? I am left with the image of the crack. Yes, it is a sign of rupture and danger. But it is also where the water seeps through, which, with patience, breaks even the hardest rock. It is where, against all logic, the most tenacious seeds grow.

This year we learned that systems can collapse (in Syria, in South Korean politics), that the weather can be relentless, and that hatred easily finds a platform. But we also reaffirmed that the courage of one woman can make history in a nation, that silent diplomacy can save lives, and that our curiosity about space is stronger than the fear of failure. 2024 offered us no easy solutions. It showed us, starkly, the work that lies ahead: healing divisions, listening to the planet, guiding our technology with wisdom, and, above all, choosing compassion over contempt, again and again.

As we say goodbye to this year, I choose not to focus solely on the abyss that opens beneath our cracks. I choose to focus on the faint but persistent light that is already emerging from within them. For it is in the crack, not in the solid wall, that change always begins.

Heartlands: A Journey That Reignites the Spark of the Hero Within

As a veteran World of Warcraft player, Heartlands not only amazed me, it reconnected me with that primal thrill of exploring Azeroth for the first time. This audio novel written by Adam Christopher and narrated by the powerful voice of Chris Metzen feels like a love letter to the game's original spirit. Five chapters filled with political drama, personal conflicts, and echoes of old wounds give a deeper soul to the conflict between the Horde and the Alliance.

I really liked how Thrall and Jaina, two key and sometimes distant figures, are forced to dialogue and collaborate in the face of a world that is about to break apart… again. The third chapter, “Bloodlines,” was especially moving: Thrall facing painful truths in front of Geya'rah reminded me that even in fantasy worlds, family scars are universal.

But the best part is how Heartlands leaves room for uncertainty. Neither faction is entirely right, and that makes the conflict feel alive and relevant. The climactic Battle of Go'Shek Farm leaves you pondering the price of loyalty, the power of choice, and what it truly means to belong to a shared world.

In short, if you're a player, Heartlands isn't just "additional lore"—it's a story that stares you in the face and asks, "What kind of hero do you want to be this time?"
