Before Orweyna learned to carve a rootpath to Azeroth, before curiosity became destiny, there was a time when everything was simpler. He wasn't a guardian or a teacher: he was a companion whose loyalty had been forged over years of trust and complicity.

Orweyna's first visit to the surface world is the turning point. Azeroth doesn't just dazzle her: it transforms her. And that transformation, as is often the case with great tragedies, doesn't come alone.

The bond between them, already strong, tightens until it becomes something deeper, more vulnerable, more dangerous. Amarakk, always prudent, always steadfast, finds himself facing a truth he cannot stop: Orweyna is changing, and so is he.

The story captures that moment with a tenderness that hurts. It's not a romance, but it's not just friendship either. It is that in-between space where words are superfluous and silence says it all.

There are stories that not only expand the world of World of Warcraft, but also deepen it. Zul'jarra: Legacy of the Amani is one of those texts that forces you to stop, breathe, and look again at a people who, for years, have been reduced to stereotypes of ferocity and resentment. This story, however, opens a different window: intimate, proud, painful, and surprisingly human.

I finished it with the feeling of having heard a voice that had been silenced for far too long.

A Leader Forged in Scars

Zul'jarra is not a new character, but here he feels reborn. He is not just a warrior or an echo of ancient wars against the elves. He is a leader who carries the memory of his people, the inherited rage, and the responsibility of deciding what to do with that legacy.

What captivated me most is how the story presents him at a breaking point:

between the tradition that shaped him and the future that could destroy him if he doesn't learn to see it differently.

The story doesn't soften or idealize him. Zul'jarra is tough, proud, stubborn… but he's also someone who listens, who doubts, who feels the weight of every life that depends on him. That complexity makes him one of the most interesting portraits Blizzard has created of the Amani in years.

The Amani Beyond the Conflict

For a long time, the Amani have been seen as antagonists: the eternal enemies of Quel'Thalas, the trolls who neither forget nor forgive. But Legacy of the Amani does something different. It shows us their culture from within:

their rituals, their spirituality, their relationship with the land and the loa, their sense of community and history.

It's a reminder that every people of Azeroth has its own voice, and that when we listen to it unfiltered, we discover nuances that completely change the narrative.

A prelude brimming with future possibilities

Like other recent stories, this text sets the stage for what's to come in Midnight. But it does so without losing its identity. It's not a disguised advertisement; it's a self-contained piece that provides context and leaves questions unanswered.

What role will the Amani play in the events to come?

What will Zul'jarra do with the weight of her legacy?

Is a new chapter possible for a people who have lived for centuries amidst wounds and resilience? There are no easy answers, and that's precisely what makes this story work so well.

What it left me thinking about

When I finished the story, I was left with a powerful feeling: that of having seen a people reclaim their place in the world, not through violence, but through memory. Legacy of the Amani doesn't seek to justify or condemn; it seeks to understand.

And in that attempt, he invites us to look at the Amani —and at Zul’jarra— with a mixture of respect, curiosity and empathy that has been long overdue.

Umbric: The Void Between — A return to the void, to memory, and to oneself

There are stories that don't need to be long to leave a deep mark. The Void Between, the new tale dedicated to Magister Umbric, is one of them. I finished it just a few hours ago and I still feel that silent echo left by texts that truly speak of ourselves.

Because although it's shrouded in arcane magic, elven cities, and shadows that whisper from the Void, this story is, above all, a reflection on identity, exile, and the possibility—sometimes painful, sometimes luminous—of returning home.

A more human Umbric than ever before

I've always seen Umbric as a fascinating character: brilliant, stubborn, marked by curiosity and a courage that doesn't always fit within the confines of his own people. But in this story, we discover him from a different angle. He's not just the leader of the Void Renegades; He is someone who carries the weight of his decisions, the nostalgia for what he lost, and the hope—small, fragile, but real—that a bridge to Quel’Thalas still exists.

That bridge has a name: Rommath.

And here, perhaps, lies the most beautiful aspect of the story: the exploration of an unlikely friendship, full of tension, silences, old wounds, and a respect that never truly faded. It is neither an easy nor an immediate reconciliation. It is a dialogue between two ways of understanding the world… and between two ways of loving their people.

The Void as a Metaphor

The Void has always been a complex narrative territory: tempting, dangerous, full of possibilities. But in The Void Between, it also becomes a mirror. Umbric doesn't just study it; he inhabits it. And that intermediate space—between light and shadow, between past and future—feels surprisingly human.

We have all been in that “between” at some point:

between decisions, between identities, between what we were and what we want to be.

Perhaps that's why the story resonates so deeply.

A perfect prelude to Midnight

Beyond the emotional impact, the text fulfills its function as a prelude to Midnight: it opens doors, sows seeds of doubt, and prepares the ground for Silvermoon's return as the protagonist. But it does so deliberately, without turning the story into a mere advertisement. It's a narrative bridge that stands on its own.

Exploring Azeroth: Northrend: World of Warcraft, By: Alex Acks (book 3)

Northrend, the frozen crown of Azeroth, is a land of contrasts where ancient secrets lie buried beneath the ice, and the echoes of past glories and tragedies linger in the air. In this book, Alex Acks invites readers on a journey through this hauntingly beautiful continent, chronicling the adventures of the Bronzebeard brothers Muradin, Magni, and Brannas as they traverse its treacherous landscapes. This latest instalment in the Exploring Azeroth series delves into the rich lore of Northrend, blending history, conflict, and character-driven storytelling to create an immersive and emotionally resonant experience.  

The book opens with the Bronzebeards embarking on a quest that takes them from the rugged mountains of Dun Morogh to the frozen tundras of Ebon Hold. Along the way, they encounter familiar faces and forgotten allies, their journey intertwining with the broader narrative of Azeroth's history. Acks masterfully capture the dynamic between the brothers, each with his own personality and struggles: Muradin’s gruff pragmatism, Magni’s idealistic determination, and Brann’s youthful enthusiasm. Their interactions are laced with humour, tension, and heartfelt moments, making their bond feel authentic and relatable.  

Northrend is not just a setting; it is a character in its own right. The continent’s landscapes are rendered vividly by its towering glaciers, shadowy forests, and ancient ruins teeming with secrets. From the eerie Icecrown Citadel to the mystical Crystalsong Forest, Acks brings these locations to life, infusing them with a sense of wonder and danger. The artwork, as always, is stunning, serving as a visual companion to the storytelling and immersing readers in the frozen beauty of Northrend.  

One of the book’s strengths lies in its ability to weave together the personal journeys of the Bronzebeards with the broader lore of Azeroth. While previous entries in the series have explored different corners of the world, Northrend feels more cohesive and emotionally impactful. The stakes feel higher, the history richer, and the themes more resonant. Central themes include resilience in the face of adversity, the weight of legacy, and the enduring power of brotherhood, topics that will resonate with readers long after turning the final page.  

However, like any journey, this one is not without its flaws. While Acks’ writing is engaging and immersive, some sections feel overly reliant on established lore, which may leave casual readers feeling a bit lost. Additionally, while the pacing is generally strong, there are moments where the narrative takes a slight detour, losing focus for a few pages before refocusing. This book is a narrative journey through the Eastern Kingdoms of Azeroth, guided by two iconic characters: the master spy Mathias Shaw and the charming Captain Flynn Fairwind. Through letters, notes, illustrations, and personal commentary, the reader is immersed in an in-depth exploration of the most iconic lands in the World of Warcraft universe.

A journey through legendary zones:

Stormwind, Silvermoon, Blackrock Mountain, and Karazhan.

This entire exploration is carried out through historical tales and hidden secrets, including powerful artefacts, forgotten ruins, and curiosities that only the most attentive will recognise.

Inspired by the manga/anime style, I've categorized my characters into tiers or "classes" of importance based on their progression and usefulness. Here's how my system works:

S-Class: The Star Protagonists

My elite characters, all level 80, represent the pinnacle of power and dedication. They are the pillars of my adventures:

- Nashiraagie (Human Paladin): Noble and resilient, capable of protecting and healing their party while delivering powerful blows.

- Luminosum (Iron Dwarf Warlock): Master of the dark arts and summoning, always a step ahead in strategy.

- Brikenhead (Undead, Death Knight): A sinister warrior, relentless in close combat, he doesn't hesitate to exploit diseases, as well as summoned undead, to inflict high-level damage.

- Zhugang (Pandaren Monk in the Horde): A skilled fighter with a perfect balance between offense and healing.

Class A: The Mighty Sidekicks

These characters, level 70+, are my featured warriors with great potential in battle:

- Dadihalgiedi (Kul Tiras Warrior): Specialist in physical combat and military tactics.

- Ferrumpungu (Wargen Hunter): Cunning and precise, always accompanied by fierce allies.

- Zeelzy (Goblin Rogue): Swift and stealthy, ideal for ambushes and sabotage.

- Zhelrer (Dracthyr Evoker in the Horde): An ancient connection to dragons, master of devastating powers.

Class B: The Brave Ones in Training

Level 70 characters who continue to grow in strength and skill:

- Thanlandgrie (Void Elf Priest): Channeler of dark energy, spiritual protector of the group.

- Alainndaga (Night Elf Mage): Intellect and magic at their finest, with the ability to destroy and control.

Class C: The Promising Aspirants

Heartlands: A Journey That Reignites the Spark of the Hero Within

As a veteran World of Warcraft player, Heartlands not only amazed me, it reconnected me with that primal thrill of exploring Azeroth for the first time. This audio novel written by Adam Christopher and narrated by the powerful voice of Chris Metzen feels like a love letter to the game's original spirit. Five chapters filled with political drama, personal conflicts, and echoes of old wounds give a deeper soul to the conflict between the Horde and the Alliance.

I really liked how Thrall and Jaina, two key and sometimes distant figures, are forced to dialogue and collaborate in the face of a world that is about to break apart… again. The third chapter, “Bloodlines,” was especially moving: Thrall facing painful truths in front of Geya'rah reminded me that even in fantasy worlds, family scars are universal.

But the best part is how Heartlands leaves room for uncertainty. Neither faction is entirely right, and that makes the conflict feel alive and relevant. The climactic Battle of Go'Shek Farm leaves you pondering the price of loyalty, the power of choice, and what it truly means to belong to a shared world.

In short, if you're a player, Heartlands isn't just "additional lore"—it's a story that stares you in the face and asks, "What kind of hero do you want to be this time?"

A skirmish erupts between the 7th Regiment and the Mag’har. Amid the chaos, Commander Marran must make a decision that will shape the course of his people. This chapter captures that dilemma between obeying orders or following one’s conscience.

Chapter 5: “The Battle of Go’Shek Farm”

The climax arrives in Arathi Heights: an intense battle, with real consequences for the factions and their leaders. Geya’rah acts with an unexpected twist that challenges both her past and our judgment as players.

Trials by Jonathan Maberry

After several younglings are lost attempting their om’gora rites, Thrall begins questioning the value of the trials. The new generation places such emphasis on martial strength and battle prowess that they would risk death attempting the rites before they are ready. Walking through Orgrimmar with his family, Thrall reflects on his son’s readiness for the trials, his own coming of age, and how to prepare this new generation to build on the legacy he and his friends started long ago.

The Lilac and The stone by Catherynne M. Valente

Queen Regent Moira Thaurissan is exhausted. Her son, Dagran II, is rapidly coming of age and stands to inherit leadership of both the Dark Iron and Bronzebeard Clans. But Dagran is bookish and odd: He would easily choose the company of his library over leadership. The Goblin Way by Andrew Robinson

 Monte Gazlowe, Trade Prince of the Bilgewater Cartel, has been probing working conditions among the goblins. The Calling by Christie Golden: A Journey of Healing and Redemption

In "The Calling," Christie Golden delves into the deeply personal journey of Anduin Wrynn as he grapples with the trauma and PTSD following the harrowing events of the Shadowlands. Haunted by nightmares and the fear that he might have enjoyed the violence he committed, Anduin isolates himself, seeking solace and distraction in Kul Tiras.

 This book offers us almost nothing new, it only confirms what was already known or expands on the already existing content.

That does not mean that it is not a good book, especially the audiobook version since it is narrated by the voice of Patty Mattson.
