The wait is over! As your Solar System Ambassador and EOP, I am officially launching our first monthly Astrophotography Challenge.
This
month, we are targeting three iconic deep-space and planetary wonders.
Whether you are imaging from your backyard or heading out to the dark
skies of the desert, I want to see your captures!.
January Targets:
- Orion Nebula (M42): The ultimate winter icon and a masterpiece of emission gas.
- Andromeda Galaxy (M31): Our majestic neighbour, a classic spiral galaxy.
- BONUS TARGET: Jupiter in Opposition! On January 10, the King of Planets makes its closest approach to Earth—don't miss those cloud bands!
Timing is Everything:
- Prime Imaging Window: January 14 – 22.
- Moon Watch: We are looking at dark skies with only ~20% illumination, perfect for catching faint details in M31.
Ambassador Tips:
- Bundle up: Vegas desert nights get cold!
- M42 is bright enough to see with the naked eye, while M31 loves long exposures to reveal those dust lanes.
- Look to the Eastern sky after sunset for the best views of Jupiter.
